The Next Intifada?

Palestinian terrorists have fired more than 100 rockets into Israel in the past 24 hours. These latest attacks from Hamas, which is now part of the Palestinian government, are reaching further into Israel. Two rockets were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system over the greater Tel Aviv area. There is renewed talk of another Palestinian uprising or a third intifada.

Israel is responding. The IDF launched airstrikes into Gaza as part of Operation Protective Edge, and the government has authorized the activation of 40,000 reservists. Predictably, media commentators are describing the Israeli actions as "part of the cycle of violence."

When Palestinian rockets are fired at Israeli civilians and Israel doesn't respond, the media never report the attacks, thus no one knows about them. When Israel does respond, it gets blamed for the "cycle of violence."

As we have reported from time to time, anti-Israel activists are very adept at manipulating the media. Far too often, the left-wing media are willing participants in the manipulation due to their anti-Israel bias. The BBC is among the worst offenders.

But the news giant grew suspicious about a social media site providing what claimed were photos of the damage caused by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. An investigation determined that many of the pictures were bogus, dating back several years and from Iraq and Syria. This is just one more reminder that Western Civilization is in the midst of an ongoing propaganda war for hearts and minds.

Meanwhile, there are no signs that talks with Iran are accomplishing anything toward ending its nuclear weapons program. In fact, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is saying that his country needs even more nuclear enrichment capability.

Khamenei also believes that the West is weak and unwilling to strike Iran's nuclear facilities. At an iftar dinner this week, Khamenei said, "… the reason they are not attacking is because it is too costly. The enemy has no other option at its disposal but to make threats and impose sanctions."

Stand With Israel

For these and other reasons, I hope you will make every effort to join me in our nation's capital, July 21st and 22nd, for the Christians United For Israel Washington Summit.

Founded by Pastor John Hagee, Christians United for Israel (CUFI) is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States with more than one million members. I am honored to serve on CUFI's Executive Board.

Watch this brief video about the Washington Summit.

This year's Summit features an outstanding lineup of speakers, including:

Charles Krauthammer

Bill Kristol

Dennis Prager

Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer

Former CIA Director James Woolsey

Register today.

I look forward to seeing you there!

"The Murrieta Mutiny"

Yesterday, protestors in Murrieta, California, blocked government buses attempting to transport illegal immigrants from the Texas border to their community for processing. That marks the third time the protestors have prevented buses from reaching their destination in what some are now calling "the Murrieta Mutiny."

President Obama is going to Texas today. But he's not going to tour the border or to discuss serious reforms. He's going to Austin for a series of fundraisers.

Meanwhile back in Washington, the administration requested an additional $3.7 billion in emergency funding to help speed up the processing of the illegal immigrants now streaming across the border.

The response from Congress should be simple: "In this time of economic distress, we are perfectly willing to provide additional resources -- not to process illegal immigrants for court hearings they never show up for, but to secure the border!"

As the border chaos burst into the headlines last week, the Obama Administration was initially talking tough, vowing to expedite deportations by changing portions of our immigration laws. But under pressure from left-wing amnesty advocates, the White House is now backing down.
