Back To School
It’s back to school season. Students are returning to school in waves across the country. It’s a big event for kids who are just starting for the first time or wrapping up their senior year of high school. For every family, it’s a different experience.
What is not different is that in all 14,000 school districts the battle over our history, our values and the indoctrination will start on Day 1. In fact, it didn’t stop over the summer break.
Americans are increasingly disturbed by the growing influence of the Democrat Socialists of America as radical communists are winning elections across the country. But the disturbing reality is that the Marxist Left seized control of the universities decades ago. They have systematically worked their way through our high schools, middle schools, elementary schools and even preschools.
All the way back in the Reagan administration, when I served as under secretary of education, we were fighting the radical teachers’ unions, which were already engaged in an ideological war against our values.
During the summer, the teachers’ unions held their annual conventions. What they did and said at those orgies of left-wing lunacy should leave no doubt that they are not organizations of teachers trying to share ideas about educating our children. They are cabals of far-left, anti-American and anti-Israel hate. They oppose everything we cherish.
Indoctrination Over Education
The largest teachers’ unions—the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Educational Association (NEA)—are at war with America, conservatives and, most of all, parents.
When the Supreme Court ruled in Mahmoud v. Taylor that parents have a right to opt their children out of extreme gender theory courses, the teachers’ unions did not say, “Okay, we’re a nation of laws, so we will respect the decision.”
Instead, they created new programs to embed LGBTQ indoctrination in every course. So, the only way to opt out of this indoctrination is to opt your kids out of public education. (If you can, I strongly urge you to do so.)
Fascism, Nazism, communism, Marxism and socialism all follow the same playbook. Whenever they get power, they shut down all educational options except for the government-run schools. Then they use the government-run schools to raise good little communists, fascists and Marxists. They turn children into weapons to be used against their parents and anyone else who dares to resist the state.
The teachers’ unions are big political powerhouses. Every four years, a huge number of delegates to the Democrat National Convention are members of the teachers’ unions. Since 1990, they have given 98% of their political donations to far-left Democrats.
The AFT and the NEA never pass resolutions calling for the restoration of phonics, the most effective way to teach reading. They never pass resolutions calling on Congress to stop the violence in our schools or urging teachers to work with parents to stop our kids from falling further behind.
No, they pass ridiculous resolutions about global warming, abolishing our federal immigration police and demanding massive cuts to the defense budget.
The teachers’ unions declared May 1st (May Day) as a “day of action.” May Day is historically associated with communists and socialists. Multiple school districts gave students the day off on May Day because they wanted our children to protest the Trump administration, immigration enforcement and anything generally conservative.
It reminds me of the New Hampshire school I visited during my campaign for the 2000 Republican presidential nomination. I told the young children how fortunate they were to be born in America and how important New Hampshire was to the founding of our country. Then I asked if they had any questions.
The first three questions were all about gay rights and why I was opposed to men marrying other men. When each child finished asking their question, they looked at their teachers standing next to the wall, and the teacher nodded approvingly as if to say, “Well done, Mary.” That was 26 years ago.
What Can We Do?
President Trump is dismantling the Department of Education—a hotbed of left-wing activism. Other Republican presidents promised to do it. Donald Trump is doing it.
President Trump and congressional Republicans passed a new educational tax credit that allows parents to claim a dollar-for-dollar credit, up to $1,700, off their taxes, for donations to organizations that fund school choice scholarships. Those scholarships can be used for any educational expenses—tuition, books, or extra tutoring. No money was taken from public schools.
The only requirement is that the state’s governor had to opt into this program. Many states are participating—almost all of them are led by Republican governors. But the Left hates our values so much that Democrat governors refuse to allow children to get extra educational help because it’s “Trump’s idea.”
The Trump administration is getting leftist ideology out of our museums and other institutions and is restoring real American history. The Left claims Trump is censoring or rewriting history. No, that’s what they did when they turned these institutions into ideological cesspools where you don’t want to take your children.
If Democrats win this November, the radical teachers’ union bosses will be demanding all kinds of “pay back” from Democrat leaders.
If Democrats win the White House in 2028, they will double the size of the Department of Education, even if they have to gut the defense budget to do it. And our children will be taught anti-American history that gives them no sense of pride in the country of their birth.
Vance Goes To Vegas
Vice President J.D. Vance addressed the Republican Jewish Coalition’s (RJC) leadership summit in Las Vegas yesterday. His remarks earned several standing ovations and rave reviews. It went a long way toward healing any breaches that may have been developing between Vance and the Jewish community.
Vance strongly denounced antisemitic conspiracy theories and blood libels as contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ. (Jesus was a Jew!) He condemned antisemitism as “corrosive to the soul.”
Pro-Israel Senator Jim Banks (R-IN) said, “[Vance] hit a home run with the crowd.” Matt Brooks, CEO of the RJC, “I don’t believe that anybody will come away from this meeting thinking that they were pandered to. I think they will come away from this conversation with a sense that the vice president really gets it and gets us.”
Changing Words, Redefining Reality
There was an avalanche of outrage from the Left when President Trump renamed Lake Ontario as Lake America. But I couldn’t help but notice the hypocrisy on display as the controversy unfolded. There are many more serious examples of things being renamed, and we have all been victims of this malicious trend.
