Trump Plays Hardball
When President Trump appointed Bill Pulte to be acting director of national intelligence (DNI), Democrats did their usual thing and went ballistic. They threatened to defeat any vote reauthorizing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), a key national security law, as long as Pulte served as DNI.
A few days later, the president later nominated U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton to serve as director of national intelligence for the remainder of his term.
Democrats demanded a quick confirmation vote for Clayton to get Pulte out of the sensitive intelligence position as quickly as possible. A handful of Republican weenies did their usual thing and immediately caved to the Democrats’ demands. Clayton’s nomination was fast-tracked through the Senate, and a confirmation hearing was scheduled to take place today.
President Trump is now blasting Republican senators for falling into another trap. He posted on social media that he was canceling Clayton’s hearing until his nominee to replace Clayton is confirmed by the Senate.
In addition, Trump declared that he will not sign FISA reauthorization legislation without the SAVE America Act attached to it. In the meantime, Trump said Bill Pulte stays right where he is.
Some people concerned about national security are very worried that if FISA isn’t reauthorized immediately, it could put us in danger. Here’s my answer to that: What puts us in danger more than anything is the prospect of the increasingly Marxist/Islamist Democrat Party getting back in control, at least in part because they continue to corrupt our elections. (See below.)
That is the great threat to our national security and to our national cohesion.
Once again, Trump understands that Americans must believe that our elections are not corrupted like every other government program the Democrats control. If Republicans don’t get that, it just shows there is no cure for stupid.
Thune’s Tune
Senate Republican Leader John Thune was interviewed last night on Fox News. When pressed by Bret Baier about the president’s desire to get rid of the filibuster in order to pass critical legislation like the Save America Act, Thune replied that he was “bound by arithmetic,” adding “the votes currently aren’t there.”
Well, if the Democrats get control of the Senate, the votes will be there. They will not hesitate to “nuke the filibuster.” They won’t allow the Senate’s precious “traditions” to stand in their way. If Democrats get control of the Senate, they will get rid of the filibuster, and then it’s going to be too late.
This debate isn’t about protecting the filibuster for the future. It’s about protecting the future of America. If Republicans eliminate the filibuster, they will do so in order to advance things that help the country. If Democrats eliminate the filibuster, they will push things that eliminate our liberties.
The Results
A handful of states held primary elections yesterday. President Trump’s endorsed nominees prevailed in Senate runoff elections in Alabama and Georgia. In the Georgia governor’s race, billionaire Rick Jackson prevailed over Lt. Gov. Burt Jones. Jackson will face Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms, whose tenure as a one-term mayor of Atlanta will provide plenty of fodder for the general election.
Other significant results indicate that Democrats are continuing their lurch to the Left. It appears that the nation’s capital will soon have a far-left socialist as mayor. In California, socialist Aisha Wahab, known as the “West Coast AOC,” is leading the race to replace disgraced Democrat Eric Swalwell.
A Win For Faith
After Charlie Kirk was assassinated last year, a high school student in Charlotte, North Carolina, painted a tribute to Kirk on a rock where students were allowed to put “spirit messages.”
She painted “Freedom 1776” and “Live Like Kirk John 11:25.” That verse reads, “Jesus said unto her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.’”
The school immediately painted over it and attempted to punish the Christian student, accusing her of “vandalism.”
Our friends at the Alliance Defending Freedom took her case. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district cried “Uncle” this week. It gave the student $95,000 and is revamping school rules on free expression.
