Classroom Chaos
I wanted a good laugh this weekend, so I spent some time reading Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s dissenting opinion in the parental rights case out of Montgomery County, Maryland.
Sotomayor, who many see as the brightest of the three liberal justices, worries that the ruling will cause “chaos” in America’s public education system if we don’t guarantee that left-wing radicals can teach elementary school children about sodomy, drag queens, and transgenderism.
She says you can’t allow parents to opt their children out of such lessons without causing harm to marginalized communities. If you allow parents to opt their children out of sodomy lessons, next they will insist on opting out of algebra.
Let me remind you of just how extreme these lessons were. Here’s a quote from a teacher’s manual on how to explain gender to young children:
“When we are born, people make a guess about our gender and label us ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ based on our body parts. Sometimes they’re right, and sometimes they’re wrong. Our body parts do not decide our gender. Our gender comes from inside — we might feel different than what people tell us we are.”
That’s not education. It’s indoctrination. Teaching this garbage to our children will lead to cultural chaos!
But notice how easily the Supreme Court’s left wing throws out what the Founders called our “first liberty,” the freedom of religion. This was a parental rights victory, but it was a victory based on the religious liberty of the parents to raise their children according to their faith.
And it wasn’t just Christian families. Muslim families and Eastern Orthodox families were part of this lawsuit.
The Left is so wedded to LGBTQ ideology, and the “T” more than anything, perhaps even abortion. It doesn’t matter what the polls say – they cannot break away from this insanity. It defines who they are and how they think of themselves. Many so-called “progressives” see this as the natural extension of the civil rights struggles of the 1960s over race.

Clueless Cusack
Actor John Cusack has been pondering the state of world affairs lately and came to this conclusion: Iran should get a nuclear weapon because “it’s the only way to deter [the] U.S. and Israel from bombing every country in [the] Middle East.”
Radical Islamists have been blowing people up in the Middle East and around the world for several decades now. But Cusack thinks it’s Israel and the United States who are bombing everyone. Not the Houthis in Yemen, not Hamas, not Hezbollah, not Islamic Jihad – all of whom are funded by Iran’s Islamic supremacist regime.
Nearly 80% of Americans oppose Iran developing nuclear weapons. Cusack is totally comfortable being in the fringe minority. He’s a perfect representative of the left wing of the left-wing party.
Jihadi Mamdani
Unlike Cusack, who doesn’t have any power, Zohran Mamdani is on his way to a lot of power and influence. He has emerged overnight as the leader of the left-wing insurgency. He wants to lead one of the most culturally iconic cities in America, and he has a good shot at it.
The primary election was last Tuesday, but press reports still refer to Mamdani as the frontrunner in the Democrat primary. How is that possible? The election was a week ago, but they’re still counting votes a week later. Third World countries count votes faster than this!
Mamdani continued to make headlines over the weekend. Asked yesterday on “Meet The Press” if billionaires had a right to exist, Mamdani replied, “I don’t think that we should have billionaires.” That was a very clear statement. No hedging there whatsoever.
His party depends on billionaires to fund their left-wing ideas. I don’t know who is more stupid in this transaction: the Democrat Party or the left-wing billionaires. By the way, his tax policies don’t just target the rich. They target white people, too.
When asked about immigration enforcement operations in New York City, Mamdani vowed to “stand up and fight back. . . Those days are going to an end.”
Sanctuary cities already refuse to cooperate with immigration police. Mamdani is suggesting something worse – that he will order the NYPD to stop immigration police from making arrests or he will use mobs to fight immigration police.
Democrat Divisions
Mamdani’s rise has terrified the Democrat establishment. Former Clinton Commerce Secretary and Obama White House Chief of Staff William Daley is beside himself that Mamdani could be New York City’s next mayor. He is urging his party to reject the “extremist, unpopular positions” of the neo-Marxist Left.
Good luck with that. Many left-wing activists see Mamdani as a Muslim Barack Obama.
They see Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a rising power in her party. There is talk of “Senator Ocasio-Cortez” and even “President Ocasio-Cortez.”
Democrat leaders like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are trying to navigate between the competing factions, but that will become harder and harder to do. There is simply no room for people like Joe Manchin (who is no longer a Democrat) and John Fetterman (who may be excommunicated from the party).
Mamdani’s positions are a natural progression of where the Left has been going. Twenty years ago, an openly anti-Israel candidate would have no future in New York City politics. Now, being anti-Israel is the Left’s new litmus test.
Former Obama official Peter Orszag recently said, “I’m saddened to say the Democratic Party is becoming increasingly antisemitic and anti-capitalism.” He’s right.
Liberal politicians have used increasingly hostile rhetoric regarding success year after year. They have told millions of people that they are poor because that guy is rich. If you keep telling them that, eventually they’re going to demand you do something about it.
Now, like Frankenstein’s monster, it’s coming back to consume them.
That Was Quick
Trade talks with Canada came to an abrupt halt on Friday after our northern neighbor tried to hit U.S. tech companies with a major tax if they interacted with Canadian citizens in any way.
In response, President Trump declared Friday afternoon, “Based on this egregious Tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately.”
Yesterday, the Canadian government announced it was rescinding the tax.
Tillis Taps Out
We just got another example of what is festering in the hearts of more establishment Republicans than we would care to admit. Over the weekend, North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis announced his opposition to the Big Beautiful Bill and also announced that he is not running for reelection next year.
In opposing President Trump’s legislative agenda, Tillis adopted the Democrats’ argument that we are gutting Medicaid. We’re doing no such thing.
We’re saying that illegal aliens shouldn’t be on Medicaid and that able-bodied adults should work at least 20 hours a week in order to qualify for Medicaid. Those are not controversial positions -- 70% of Americans agree with them.
And Tillis is not alone. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, from the conservative state of Alaska, has said she’s open to joining Chuck Schumer and Bernie Sanders if the Senate is split 50/50 after the elections.
Kentucky’s Rand Paul is in a class by himself. As a libertarian, he says there is too much spending in the Big Beautiful Bill. But surely, he knows we’d lose weak-kneed moderates if there were additional spending cuts.
In every case, it seems to me that these politicians are putting their own personal desires, egos, and arrogance above the interests of the country.
So far, there are two definite no votes. We can lose one more and win with Vice President Vance breaking the tie. If we lose two more votes, it’s over. And the United States will suffer an economy-wreaking tax increase.
Another Sign Of Revival?
A new poll finds that 58% of Americans agree with the idea of “religious chaplains providing support services for students in public schools.”
While it’s definitely not something the DC consulting class would embrace, the great state of Texas already allows it, and other states are considering it.
Across The Pond
I have been warning for years that forces in the West are determined to bring us to our knees. That’s why they want massive immigration from nations and cultures that do not share our values. Our Marxist universities are at war with Western Civilization, churning out zealots year after year that hate America, Israel, capitalism, and Judeo-Christian civilization.
Here’s a perfect example from the weekend.
The Glastonbury Festival is a multi-day concert that takes place in England every year. Inspired by Woodstock and hippie counterculture of the 1960s, it began decades ago and still attracts huge crowds. The festival is making headlines this year, not for peace and love, but for hate.
Rapper Bobby Vylan led the crowd in a catchy chant of “Death, Death to the IDF” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” Palestinian flags were everywhere in the crowd. The Trump administration revoked Vylan’s visa.
Another group called “Kneecap” chanted, “Free, Free Palestine!” Kneecap made headlines months ago for telling an audience, “The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP [member of Parliament].” One member of Kneecap is facing terrorism charges for waving a Hezbollah flag on stage and chanting, “Up Hamas! Up Hezbollah!” at a concert earlier this year.
Much of the hate at the Glastonbury Festival was aired live on the BBC. This is a country where Christians have been arrested and convicted for silently praying in public.
