Threats To The Homeland

Earlier this week, we told you about the radical Islamists chanting, “Death to America! Death to Israel!” in Dearborn, Michigan. It was a shocking display of hatred, but also a stark reminder that the barbarians are inside the gates.

They are here because of our insane open borders immigration policies. They are here because we do not seriously vet the people coming into our country to find out what they believe and whether they share our values.

Immigration reform cannot be only about securing a steady flow of cheap labor. It must be about securing the safety of the American people. This is a top priority of our work, and we are regularly making the case with top policymakers and in the media for secure borders and commonsense reforms that put America first.

And it’s not just immigrants. An 18 year-old student was arrested last weekend for planning suicide attacks on churches in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He pledged his loyalty to ISIS and timed his attack for the end of Ramadan.

How does a young student become radicalized by Islamic extremism to the point where he is willing to attack his own country? There is no simple answer, but much of the blame falls on the anti-American indoctrination that is taking place in our schools today.

Too many American kids are taught that our founders were evil men and that our country was evil at its birth and is evil today. That’s one reason why so many young people today think Osama bin Laden was a “good guy” and are siding with the terrorists of Hamas over the democratic state of Israel.

If they are brainwashed by that kind of indoctrination, we shouldn’t be surprised when some take up arms against what they believe is an “evil nation.”

The anti-American history that is so prevalent in our schools today is total insanity!

I am committed to rooting out neo-Marxist ideologies from our schools and restoring pride and patriotism in our country. If we don’t do this, we won’t have a country much longer.

The Deep State Threat

Meanwhile, the debate continues in Congress over renewing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

As I just noted, we are facing serious threats. And one of those threats is a Deep State that meddles in our elections and threatens our liberties.

We must demand accountability and transparency. We must be able to trust that our own government is following the law and not turning the powers it has to protect us against us.

Sadly, after what we have witnessed in recent years, that trust is gone.

The 19 House conservatives who objected to the FISA bill should not be attacked by the GOP establishment. We should be demanding to know why more of our elected representatives aren’t insisting on stronger reforms.

Why, when the FBI has spied on parents, conservative churches, and presidential campaigns, are we giving them more power? Some believe FBI Director Wray lied under oath about these abuses and did nothing to discipline those responsible.

The GOP’s knee-jerk reaction to blindly trust the government, which is infested with leftist ideologues, has got to stop! Have they learned nothing from the Russia collusion hoax?

Congressional oversight should not mean rubberstamping whatever a federal agency wants, no matter if it’s the CIA, EPA, FBI, or Pentagon.

We Must Be Wise

I want to revisit the abortion debate that is causing so much controversy right now. And I want to be absolutely clear at the very beginning: I would like to see the Supreme Court rule that there is a presumption in our Constitution that all life is protected and you can’t take a life without due process of law.

But even with the majority we have today, it’s not clear to me that there are five votes for that position. What is clear is that most Americans are deeply conflicted and divided over the issue.

According to Gallup’s polling, only 13% of Americans favor banning all abortions. In contrast, 34% believe abortion should be legal in any circumstance, while 51% are somewhere in between.

The Knights of Columbus poll found similar results: 9% favor banning all abortions, 29% believe abortion should be available during the entire pregnancy, and 62% would still allow it in certain circumstances.

The Pew Research Center finds that 35% of Americans believe some states are making it too easy to get abortions, while 62% believe some states are going too far in restricting abortion.

The left is doing everything it can to convince the American people that pro-life conservatives are extremists who want to ban all abortions. If they succeed, the pro-life movement loses. The left has already been successful even in conservative states like Kentucky and Ohio in the last year.

If pro-life conservatives can convince the American people that the real extremists are, in fact, the abortion on demand leftists, we have a chance to win that battle.

Donald Trump has made that case. He has gone after the left’s pro-abortion extremism, and he did it again when he made a statement this week that some of us didn’t completely embrace.

From 1973 to 2022, the position of the pro-life movement has been to overturn Roe v. Wade and return the issue back to the states. The conservative majority on the Supreme Court did that.

Here’s the irony: If the left succeeds in convincing the public that if pro-life conservatives get power in Washington, D.C., and in many states, we will ban all abortions, we will likely go deeper in the hole in Congress, lose control in many states, and the left will impose their extremist position of abortion on demand nationwide.

This is the time to follow the biblical injunction to be as wise as serpents.

The one thing we must not do is risk the left continuing to control Washington, maybe even with bigger margins than it has now. If that happens, we will not only get Roe v. Wade passed into law by Congress, but we will lose everything else. They will eliminate the filibuster, pack the Supreme Court, and end religious liberty.

Progressive Priorities

Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently appointed Zakiya Carr Johnson to be the new diversity czar at the State Department. Carr Johnson is a far-left ideologue. She is all in on neo-Marxist critical race theory and intersectionality and believes that America is a “failed historical model.” I’d like to know what her preferred “model” is.

While the country is suffering through a major crime wave and illegal alien gangs are terrorizing American communities, the Biden Justice Department is going after Utah for allegedly discriminating against a transgender inmate.

The incarcerated individual believes he has a right to force Utah’s taxpayers to pay for his transgender medical procedures. Evidently, the Biden administration agrees.

The House Oversight Committee considered a bill yesterday requiring the next census to have a question asking those filling out the form about their citizenship status. The bill would also require the Census Bureau to only count citizens, not illegal aliens, when it comes to determining representation in Congress.

The bill should have passed unanimously. Instead, it was a party-line vote with every Republican voting for it and every Democrat voting against it.

A Great Reception

Former President Trump was campaigning in Georgia yesterday when he made an unscheduled stop at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Atlanta. He wasn’t screamed at or booed out of the restaurant. Quite the opposite.

He received a great reception from the customers and staff, many of whom were minorities, and they were very excited to see him.

Trump walked up to the counter and reportedly covered the orders for all the customers. He talked with the young black women behind the counter as if they had known each other for years.

One customer, a black woman, yelled out, “I don’t care what the media tells you, Mr. Trump. We support you.” He gave her a hug, and they posed for pictures.

Defending Faith, Family, & Freedom

In this week’s Defending Faith, Family, and Freedom podcast for the James Dobson Family Institute, I analyze former President Donald Trump’s recent statement on abortion, Roe v. Wade, and IVF.
